Teri Thompson, Owner/Director of SuperKids

Teri Thompson is the founder and director of SuperKids. Through SuperKids, she creates movement programs for young children and families that develop the “super” in children. Most children have an innate love of movement that is further developed in SuperKids gymnastics and dance.

Teri competed for four years with her university gymnastics team, and then taught elementary school. In 1983 she began teaching gymnastics to children in Hermosa Beach under the name Tiny Tot's Gym, which later was called Hippety Heart's Gym, and then finally the name it is today, SuperKids Gym and Dance.

“SuperKids is my lifelong calling - I love helping all the many children and parents that have been a part of  SuperKids over the years. I enjoy working with my fabulous instructors - they are so creative and supportive of each other and of me - it feels like one big family.  Also, my instructors are lots of fun and keep me young at heart. SuperKids has been an amazing,  fulfilling, and creative experience for me for over 30 years,” said Teri

Mr. Tom

Mr. Tom started working with SuperKids in 1984, first as a musician. He played the piano, guitar, banjo and harmonica for the Hippety Heart's Gym program in Hermosa Beach, which later evolved into SuperKids. He has created Vol. 1 and 2 of the "Get Up and Move" C.D, which are unique songs that actually teach movement through the words to the songs.  He teaches Gymnastics, Parent and Me Gym, and has revolutionized our popular birthday parties by introducing lots of fun games to the format. Children love Mr. Tom because, even after many years of teaching, he brings humor and fun to his classes.

He now plays bass as a professional musician with the Windy Ridge Band at local venues.

"I like working for SuperKids because it is a creative outlet for my musical talent, and it's challenging and physically active. The kids are great to work with, too,"  said Mr. Tom.

Miss Kerry

Miss Kerry started at SuperKids in February 2005.  After moving away in 2010, she is now back.  She teaches both dance and gymnastics and is currently Assistant Manager of SuperKids.

She was a competitive gymnast for 6 years and did both cheerleading and dance team at Torrance High School. Kerry also did musical theater productions through Starlight and The City of Torrance from 4 years old until 16. She plans to continue teaching fitness to children and adults, and one day have her own children's fitness company.

She loves to sing, dance and go on adventures and travel with friends and family.

"It gives me great pride to know I am a role model for the kids I teach.  Watching them learn new skills while having fun is the best feeling!" says Miss Kerry.

Miss Desiree

Miss Desiree started teaching at SuperKids in February 2013. She teaches ballet, tap, and parent & me dance, also gymnastics.

From age 2 she was passionate about dancing and did ballet, tap, contemporary, jazz and hip-hop. She was on the West High School dance team her senior year of High School, and was also involved with a local dance team. Miss Desiree currently attends El Camino College and hopes to transfer to Cal State Long Beach to study Psychology. She would like to be a Marriage/ Family Therapist, and eventually own her own dance studio.

In her spare time she likes hiking, yoga, and mixed martial arts.

"I love the kids! I like to see them grow from basics. Fundamentals are the building blocks of fun!" says Miss Desiree

Miss Amanda

Miss Amanda started teaching in August 2014. She teaches both dance and gymnastics to all ages.

Her love for dance started at 3 years old. Growing up, you could find her dancing in a class or practicing at home. Amanda tried gymnastics when she was young but stuck with dance and competed with a local dance academy for over 10 years. After graduating from Mira Costa High School in 2010 she became a dance instructor and has been actively teaching and choreographing for 5 years. In 2012 Amanda received her Associates Degree in Liberal Studies from Santa Monica College, and would like to continue teaching. One day she would like to own her own studio so she can continue to grow as a choreographer and share my passion of dance through positive teaching methods.

Dancing, working out, hiking, swimming, going to concerts are just some things Amanda likes to do.

"I absolutely love working for SuperKids! It is so much fun working with children and building their self confidence. Going into work and challenging kids, making them smile, is such a joy. I also love the active part of my job as well!" says Miss Amanda

Miss Michelle

Miss Michelle started teaching at Superkids in October 2015. She teaches ballet, tap and gymnastics to all ages.

She began dancing at 3 years old and never stopped! With over 20 years dance experience, she's studied ballet, jazz, musical theatre, tap, lyrical, contemporary, ballroom and hip hop. In addition, she began gymnastics very young and trained as a gymnast for several years, stopping to focus more attention to her dance training.  In her hometown in Northern California she studied at The Sacramento Ballet, before moving to study theatre at the University of Southern California.  At USC she performed in multiple School of Dramatic Arts productions, as well becoming a company member in their Repertory Dance Company and Chamber Ballet Company, for which she was also a choreographer.  She aspires to create her own theatre company, so she may continue to teach and to perform, her two great passions.

When she's not teaching Michelle enjoys reading and coffee, often at the same time, as well as singing, cats, and going to the theatre.

"I love working with children, watching their excitement when they master a challenging step or position for the first time is so rewarding!  Creating a fun environment where they want to learn, where they are comfortable taking risks, is one of the best parts of teaching.  My students can always put a smile on my face." says Miss Michelle
